Do I really need to wait FIVE MINUTES for the glue to dry? Sounds like too much.

I came here wanting to find what I'm doing wrong fixing flats, and I didn't see anything I haven't done here. But my inner tube still seeps out air from under the patch. Everytime I fix a inner tube my success rate is about 50/50. I guess I just suck at doing it?

Can you use super glue

You forgot to mention to check the entire inside and outside surface of the tire for anything that could still be stuck in the tire which cause the hole to start with.

I don't know if it's only me, but seeing the patch being applied ontop of that dog hair really bugged the hell out of me, otherwise informative video, thank you.

I never bother removing that plastic cover. After a puncture, all I want is to put the wheel back on and go home!!

Thank you, sir.
This video is really helpful.
I exactly followed the directions which comes with my patch kit, but it didn't work. Then I followed your direction and finally succeed thanks to your video. I appreciate!

No the tube the tire

One problem with patches with glue is that the glue would dry off after one use. Is there a way to fix this?

Otherwise, self adhesive patches would seem like the better economically solution.

I find I manage to lose the sandpaper bit after the first use, but park tool tyre levers have a diamond pattern molded to them that will rough up the tube fairly well. Also, I use the spoke catcher end to apply force to the patch as I don't carry a spanner in my saddle bag.

I bought one of the kits and instructions do not say anything about waiting after applying the glue. It literally says "spread the glue then apply the patch. Hope it works.

What about the tyre itself though- if there's a hole in it from a nail or something how do you go about repairing that?

If it's that big, bin it.  But, if you're in a pinch, you can fold up a dollar bill and stick it on the inside of the tire.  Should help prevent the new tube from bursting through the hole.

I thought you would use a bucket of water

Hey, Thanks guys for a good work. I am just wondering how much should i smooth the tube with the sandpaper? How will i know how much is too much, or too little. Appreciate answers or views. Cheers x

One of the most important steps before reinstalling the repaired tube is carefully checking the inside of the tire for whatever cause the puncture. On a road bike this is often a piece of wire form a blown out car or truck tire - highway shoulders are littered with this stuff. Run your finger cautiously around the inside of the tire and you will often encounter the culprit still sticking through the tread. If you do not remove this, you will be fixing another flat almost immediately. I found this out the stupid way!

do you only have to patch the tube? what about the tire that's been punctured, does it need a patch as well?

do I wait for the glue to dry then put the patch on or put the patch on while the glue is still wet?

+Joe Gilchrist apply when almost dry

thanks for this vid

No mention of finding what caused it still poking through the tyre before re-installing tube!!!

What is the tire is very narrow, and the patch to wide, so it's not easy to stick. I should bend it, but it's difficult, with the glue and all. Any tips?

Does anyone know how long the patch will last for ?

3:08 - It's critical that after you clean the area, you find 1 cat hair and position it right under the patch. Then, and only then, do you have yourself a successfully patched inner tube!

I have a radio in my car.

I always recommend that the time while the glue is drying is most usefully spent finding the cause of the puncture, cos if you forget this step, then you'll have completely wasted your time......Having a cup of tea indeed..

I could do this when I was 8 years old because it's common sense you shouldn't even own a bike if u can't do this
